As a life-long Oviedo resident, Lump (Orian) Boston dedicated years of service to his community as a member and former president of the Oviedo Jaycees and as a member of the Oviedo Historical Society.

Lump Boston donated countless volunteer hours to raising money for Oviedo’s Pop Warner, Little League, and Babe Ruth teams. Everyone connected with these teams looked forward to his barbecue dinners, donated free of charge, that kicked off the season.

After his unexpected death in April 2019, The Citizens Bank of Florida donated $1000 to his wife, Janice Boston, to help set up a scholarship fund in Lump’s Memory. To honor Lump’s involvement with Oviedo Citizens in Action, especially in light of his service as past president, the scholarship fund has been entrusted to Oviedo Citizens in Action, Inc to be distributed to deserving youths in the community. Since Lump’s death, the fund has grown in size due to family and community donations and donations continue to be accepted.

In 2021, the scholarship committee decided to award all future scholarships to deserving youth in Oviedo community who are involved in the sports leagues so beloved by Lump. Lump will always be remembered as someone who possessed a contagious smile and an entertaining sense of humor. He maintained a simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many.

His signature gift of joy, laughter, and joking around will never be forgotten. With a real zest for life, Lump lived by a “happy go lucky” code all of his life where he was a friend to many and a stranger to none, touching lives wherever he went.

The Lump Boston Scholarship Fund will continue the tradition of touching lives and spreading joy and laughter by helping the young people of Oviedo. To donate to the Scholarship Fund through OCIA, use this link.
